We, the undersigned, believe a candidate for high school principal in District 197 should bring perspectives and experiences to the role that we do not currently have represented in the high school administration.

Our strength as a community is rooted in diversity, tolerance, and inclusion. In order to nurture those qualities in our community we expect these to guide the district administration’s search for a new high school principal. For example, we are excited to bring a highly qualified female, BIPOC, LGBTQIA and/or multilingual leader to our administration who has experience teaching in the Arts, Languages, STEM, Special Education, or advanced Social Sciences. Administrative leadership should be reflective of the demographics of the student body. Additionally, we must value the lived racial and gender experience of candidates.

As community members, as past, present, and future high school families, as citizens, and as human beings, we sign this document and state our expectation of forward progress in District 197.

We need staff and especially administrators hired who reflect the cultures/diversity of the student body. District 197 needs to be looking for more diverse applicants: women BIPOC, LGBT or in the very least, administrators and staff who are bilingual. Now is the time for a change! No more white men in these positions!

It is absolutely essential that the administration is a reflection of the student body that it serves, and having a highly qualified female, BIPOC, LGBTQIA and or multi-lingual leader is imperative for true progress to be made in the areas of diversity, inclusion and equity in our high school.

Please invest in the work to intentionally recruit BIPOC applicants. The selection of candidates who end up in the interview pool should *at minimum* reflect the racial representation of HSHS. Even better? BIPOC candidates should outnumber the white ones for a more equitable opportunity for this position.

Diversity in the leadership of our high school is long overdue. Please use this opportunity to bring in fresh perspectives and experience.

Representation Matters! Candidate must be reflective of the student body. Equality & equity are not the same thing!

Diverse leaders are our future. In this present time I demand that gift NOW so everyone’s future in our district can happen.
