Don't axe the 207 and 205
Councillor Kate Wheller is calling for a meeting with South West Buses and Dorset County Council to ask them to re-consider their decision to axe two vital bus routes in Weymouth & Portland. The 207 is the ONLY bus to serve the large area of Wyke Regis south of the Buxton Road. Residents face a long uphill walk to Buxton Road or Portland Road to catch a bus. And the 205 is the ONLY bus serving The Grove and Wakeham on Portland. YOI visitors and locals will have to book taxis or face a long walk to Easton for a bus. Councillors were not consulted about this decision which will take effect end November 2012 - they were told at a meeting on Monday evening or in an information report distributed yesterday (9/10/12). Councillor Wheller is the Labour group leader and lives in Wyke. She has highlighted the duplication of buses on some routes in her area, namely the number 6 and the 206 - which are often not fully utilised in any case. She hopes the bus company and DCC will agree to a discussion with her and that alternative solutions to the problem (caused by a lack of subsidy funds) can be found, as has been the case in other rural areas of the country.
