We, the signers of this petition, believe that the Marijuana laws in the State of Indiana should be changed. There are thousands of Hoosiers whose lives have been destroyed by being arrested for Marijuana. Those with ANY drug conviction in Indiana are denied state assistance in many forms, and a drug conviction, even for Marijuana, makes it virtually impossible to find suitable employment. Marijuana has been shown, by extensive scientific evidence, to be of great medicinal value. The statistics show thousands of deaths every year that are related to Alcohol. There are NO deaths attributed to Marijuana. Yet Alcohol is perfectly legal and accepted by society. Prohibition of Alcohol didn't work, and prohibition of Marijuana isn't working either. We are asking that Marijuana be allowed for medicinal use, and we also ask that you consider taxing and regulating Marijuana just as you do Alcohol. Instead of spending millions of Indiana tax dollars every year for the incarceration, court costs, and "treatment" of Marijuana users, lets put millions in the state treasury from the legal, organized, and SAFE use of this wonderful plant.
