Stop signs for Valerie Fahie
On June 1st 2014 my mother was tragically killed while mowing the lawn at the intersection of Winston Dr and Maple Ave in Shirley, NY by a driver who was not paying attention on a residential street that has a one way stop sign. My mother was not in the middle of the road and this car being forced to stop may have saved her life. This road is direct access to Brookhaven Calabro airport which has emergency vehicles going down it constantly as well as other drivers going speeds around 50-60 mph sometimes more in a 30 mph zone. If this intersection had a 4 way stop sign like requested to the town for years this vehicle would have been forced to stop instead of doing speeds capable of delivering this deadly blow. Maybe he would of seen my mother within feet of the intersection and maybe she would be alive today. My family and I are asking for signatures to petition to the town of Brookhaven to put in a 4 way stop sign.
