This petition is directed to the Hinsdale South Hall of Fame Committee in an attempt to induct nominee Harold Lathrop into the HOF. Many of you remember him as a teacher and or coach during his tenure from 1971-1988. Harold was involved in launching the Illinois high school AP program. He served as chair of the Science Department (and taught physics and chemistry) for many years where he positively influenced countless students. So many of which pursued careers in science, medicine, and other technical areas. Please help to convince the HOF committee to induct Harold as deserved.

Regards,

Tim Lathrop

I have been reading through your stories about the experiments and lessons that shaped your lives in my father's classroom. These memories remind me exactly why I started this because he spent his life pouring everything into his students. I am currently reaching out to the committee members to ensure they see the impact he left on all of you.

Seeing these stories from former students pouring in reminds me exactly why my father loved this school so much. The momentum behind his nomination is building in a way I never expected and it shows just how many lives he truly touched.

Harold Lathrop was not only a great teacher he was also a wonderful leader in our church community. He definitely deserves this accolade.

Mr Harold Lathrop was an inspirational teacher that made science interesting and was able to help me understand the difficult concepts. He is one of only a handful of teachers that I remember having made an impact on my life. It would be great if others saw him in the same light and recognized him in the HSHS HOF.

Great department chair and mentor to me. He had much faith in me and my teaching ability and pushed me to do more than I thought I could.

My favorite at Hinsdale South. Because of him, I became a chemistry major and have my masters in biochemistry. I remember dropping off a teacher recommendation form to his house because the deadline was approaching. He had no problem taking the time to help a student out. Thank you, Mr. Lathrop!!

Mr. Lathrop was one of the best and most respected teachers while I attended Hinsdale South. There were only a handful that still stand out to me after all these years and he is definitely one of them and should be in the hall of fame.

I have been lucky to have gotten a great education. I have a bachelor’s from Stanford and a law degree from the University of Chicago. All of it made possible on the foundation of an amazing primary and secondary public school education in Darien, Illinois. And whenever I am asked who was the best teacher I ever had, my answer is quick: Mr. Lathrop.

I had Mr Lathrop for Chemistry in the late 70s. I’m thankful for good teachers in my life, who made learning fun.
