The Irish Government are proposing to equalise the price between diesel and petrol. As predicted, they propose to do this by increasing taxes on diesel to raise its price in line with petrol. This will have a negative effect on the economy, increase costs to rural dwellers and increase cost of consumer goods due to increased transport costs. We, the Irish Petrol Retailers Association, need your signature to petition the government not to increase the tax on Diesel in the 2018 Budget. Let us bring your voice to the decision makers by signing this petition today!

The climb to our current goal has been slow and exhausting work for everyone involved. Pushing past this threshold is the only way to ensure the government acknowledges the burden this tax creates for rural communities.

Due to the inadequate public transport system, rural dwellers both need their vehicles and have to, by default, drive significantly more miles / Kms than their urban counterparts. Also, if diesel costs increase all goods distributed by road will similarly rise, whether legitimately or otherwise!
Absolute madness this is the sly way the government are going to make up for the loss in revenue through countless mistakes.At upwards of 10c price difference imagine what that amounts to weekly/monthly/annually once again the worker & employer pays again.
After the major recession and all of the debt which is being paid back by all of us we cannot afford to loose business by any increase of tax on Road diesel. In my case diesel accounts for 0ver 70% of my sales. An increase will also effect transport costs thereby putting another burden on all of us not just businesses.
We at the westward group are very concerned at this proposal for all the reasons outlined and also the cost of having to change tank and fueling systems
Against diesel tax purchased a diesel when government encouraged people to do it with low tax incentive
Do not raise duties on disesel fuel. Rural dwellers have no public transport alternative and are being victimised

This would be another blow to rural communities that lack proper public transport systems. Rural Ireland is already suffering with: Garda Stations closed, Post offices closed; Small rural schools under pressure or closing, Lack/downgrading of Hospitals and medical services, No job creation strategy
