Reinstate the changes made to the graduation program to allow Regina Public Schools Students to have a full graduation banquet

The changes made to the graduation program of schools across the Regina Public School Board are outraging parents and students alike, as a key component of the program has been taken away from students. The graduation banquet has been removed from the program. Students were given poor reasons of justification to the alterations, all of which are easily rectified situations that have a large array of solutions.
The grad banquet has been an important part of the graduation process for students, parents, and teachers for a number of years and the changes made to this fundamental principle have been received within the community as unfair, unjustified, and upsetting.
The purpose of this petition is to convince the Regina Public School Board to adopt a handful of solutions to the issues they brought up in order to reinstate the banquet, such as rescheduling the event to accommodate all students, allowing, encouraging, and supporting fundraising for families who can't afford it, and enforcing guidelines to prevent incidents at the event that may cause concern. Putting these solutions in place will create an opening to bring the grad banquet back in to place.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels surreal because it proves I am not the only one mourning the loss of this rite of passage for our kids. My own heart still aches thinking about them missing out on this celebration but your involvement gives me real hope that we can change the board's mind.

My own child is heartbroken that this milestone event was stripped away without a real conversation. We are right on the edge of reaching one hundred signatures but we need a final push to force the board to finally listen to us.

Please don't take this away from the graduates, this is a big accomplishment for them as well as their family. Even if you are a low income family putting $10.00 to $20.00 a month away will be enough to attend a banquet for these special people.
The banquet is a tradition. It is part of the whole celebration. The "reasons" for cancellation were questionable and there was no public discussion about it. This is not how this should have been done. Like the students say - there are solutions!
My parents are going to have an 8 hour trip to come and see me graduate just to see me walk across a stage and pick up a diploma which takes 10 seconds... The banquet was a time to look back at us and reflect our hard work. I want it how it was for sure!
This change is way too sudden. Change it four years from now so grade 9's don't go through 4 years of high school waiting for their grad banquet only to have it cancelled with no say what so ever. This is what the senior class is thinking right now.
I understand the need to balance the budget. but between cutting grads lunchroom talks cutting scc budgets you are taking the fun out of school the social aspect of it. there has to be a solution even if it putting it back on scc to fundraise for it.
They deserve a full grad banquet. This is a major high light of their life and looked forward to it all year.
Bring back the banquet.

Really?? The parent committee does 95 percent of this so what does it matter to the board? If it's about fairness for all students there can be fundraising opportunities or anonymous donations, etc. This is not for the school board to decide.
