Dear Seattle City Councilmembers,

Big business is reaping record profits while Seattle's affordable housing and homelessness crisis only worsens. Wealthy corporations like Amazon already pay little in taxes, and now will be paying even less thanks to the Trump $1.8 trillion corporate tax cut windfall.

We, the undersigned community members, call on you to urgently address the city's affordable housing crisis by raising $150 million/year by taxing Seattle's biggest 5%-10% of businesses, using the Employee Hours Tax starting January 2019. This level of funding will allow the city to build up to 750 new affordable units per year, using priority hire/union labor agreements, as well as a major expansion of funding for homeless services.

We hope that Seattle's city council will use this historic opportunity to fight back against the Trump agenda and make our city truly welcoming to all.

Please join us as well at the Tax Amazon protest!

Petition prepared by the Affordable Housing Alliance, the Office of Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, Socialist Alternative, and the Seattle Democratic Socialists of America.
