Let First Years Use the Lantz Room
UCLA's Animation Workshop needs to update it's policy about not allowing first year students to use the Lantz computer lab.
This issue has been brought up many times by students during meetings, with little success. First years are the students most in need of the Cintiqs and animation software provided in the Lantz room, as many incoming students do not have equipment they need to work independently. Prohibiting them from using the room stocked with the tools they need forces them to spend even more money to complete their coursework.
One of the main reasons cited is the tradition of first year films being strictly "traditionally" animated. However first year students have been allowed to create digitally animated films for years, therefore out-dating this argument. With digital animation becoming more relevant to our education than ever, everyone in the Animation Workshop should be allowed access to the room.
The Animation Workshop's 8 Year Review is on Thursday February 27th, which is the perfect opportunity to show our support of this policy change! Sign this petition if you believe first year UCLA Animation Workshop students should be allowed access to the Lantz room.
