A Regional Aquatic Center for Snoqualmie Valley: It's time for Si View, Snoqualmie, and SVSD to work together!
The undersigned Valley residents want Si View, Snoqualmie, and SVSD to put their time and resources toward a regional public aquatic center in Snoqualmie Valley.
The residents of Snoqualmie Valley need better access to aquatics. Our only current public pool, Si View Pool, is 86 years old and failing. Three bond proposals to replace it have narrowly failed with Si View MPD voters. Snoqualmie’s current YMCA project is stalled out with only half of the funding in hand. No remaining prospects to get the project fully funded remain except for taking on a large debt, and if built it would use tax funds to build a membership-based YMCA pool, not a public one.
Support for a public pool is high in Snoqualmie Valley and has been for some time. Si View MPD surveys indicate that better aquatic access has been a high priority of Valley residents for close to a decade. Votes to fund a public pool over the last 15 years in both Snoqualmie and North Bend have consistently gotten more than 50% approval. However, capital bonds need a notoriously difficult 60% approval to pass, and the cost of a pool can be a significant tax burden or capital investment for a single small municipality to manage on their own.
Valley cities and municipalities can only complete this project responsibly by working together. This means that Snoqualmie, Si View, SVSD, and any other interested regional partners must collaborate and develop a shared vision for a regional aquatic center and a shared responsibility for funding and operating it. There are many paths by which this goal could be achieved. By working together, they can better leverage available grants and other funding to make it affordable and equitable for the entire Valley.
Sign this petition to let your elected leaders know that you would like them to sit down together and work honestly and transparently toward this critical goal.
