Join the advocacy to allow Lower Extremity Amputees to wear a prosthesis during triathlons in the swim event, thus being taken out of the TRI 5 ParaTriathlete classification and be permitted to compete with able-bodied athletes and run in and out of the water with his/her age group; no handler needed.
A new ankle prosthetic component has been designed and produced which allows the paratriathlete to ambulate in and out of the water without stopping to orientate the ankle, articulation is hands-free which is as normal and safe as you can be.
Current ITU rules do not allow the use of a prosthetic device in the swim event. The use of the Aqua Transition Ankle does not provide any advantage over the able bodied athlete only rotating within the normal human range of motion (50 degrees plantar flexion), but will enable the user to;
- Improve mental confidence,
- Acquire natural aquatic signature,
- Enjoy a safer and more competitive transition.
