Add Healthier Dining Options To UCSB Campus
Sometimes everybody needs to grab a quick meal in between a full day of classes. For those of us trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle or have dietary restrictions, this is a challenge. The UCSB Campus Dining currently partners with Panda Express, Subway (with two locations on campus), Woodstocks, and Jamba Juice. Not a single one of these would be considered a remotely healthy option. UCSB Campus Dining needs to partner with at least one healthier and more dietary friendly restaurant. This could include Chipotle, Luna Grill, Sweetgreens, Pressed Juicery, or even fresh food stands. The prepackaged salads sold in the Arbor does not cut it.
Not only would this better the health of UCSB students, but would also attract more fitness and health focused students. While many students lead busy lives juggling academic coursework, extracurricular activities, jobs, and social commitments, they still prioritize their health. Having convenient access to healthy food options on campus saves time and makes it easier for students to make nutritious choices even during hectic schedules.
Proper nutrition is closely linked to mental health. College students already struggle with mental health alone. Eating nutritious foods can help regulate mood, reduce stress levels, and improve cognitive function, all of which are critical for academic success and overall well-being.
UCSB claims to strongly advocate for the health and well being of their students. If this is actually the case, they can replace at least one of the two Subway locations on campus with something more fresh and healthy.
