Advocating the Safety of Local Bears
Williams Lake has experienced a spike in the number of "dangerous" wildlife encounters this summer. I accent the word dangerous because in the recent weeks even seeing a bear has been enough justification for conservation officers to hunt and destroy the animal. One article headline reads, "Over a dozen bears killed locally in the past 24 hours". This is unacceptable. We are gathering signatures to show Mayor Kerry Cook that we, the residents of Williams Lake, do not accept this destruction of our wildlife. Our group meets with her Tuesday 2nd and will be requesting that a public meeting that place, with her and both CO's of our city present. Our ultimate goal is to have Williams Lake adopt the "Bear Smart Program" or something similar. Please contact jennstasica@hotmail.com for more information. There is also more sign sheets located at: Wildwood Race Trac Gas, Amberama Do's and Estetics, and the WLSPCA.
