Against the Childcare Centre DP application at 9 Lincoln Street Eastwood
A DP application has been lodged with the Ryde City Council to develop a Childcare Centre with the capability of 91 children (0 - 5 years), 15 educators and 18 car parking spots. We strongly oppose this application. By careful studying of the DP application, we are concerned that the location and design will create significant traffic and safety issues that may impose an unacceptable risk to children (both the Primary School and the proposed Childcare Centre), parents and pedestrians. Therefore, we strongly oppose this DP application on the following grounds:
(i) It will generate a large amount of extra traffic, particularly in peak hours. This fact will certainly jeopardize the already congested Lincoln Street traffic. Consequently, it will impose a substantial risk to the children in both the Eastwood Primary School and the proposed Childcare Centre, collocated along Lincoln Street.
(ii) The fact that a school and a Childcare Centre positioned next to each other will increase the risk of a terrorist attack.
(iii) A Childcare Centre of 91 places is clearly a commercial intrusion to a low-density Lincoln Street. A Childcare Centre with such a large facility should be built at a place with easy access and car parking, and Lincoln Street is clearly not an ideal location for it.
