Final supporters
Many of you would have received my letter in the last few days in regards to the licensing application of Jams Kitchen Ltd, Daisy’s In The Park, The Hub, Cassiobury Park.
As a result of my letter I have received hundreds of emails in response from residents that were as concerned as me.
I wrote that I objected to the licence being granted in its current form as being a resident who has lived with my family in the vicinity of Cassiobury Park for many years, and as a father who has young children, I believe that it is wrong to have alcohol served in and around a children’s play area for many reasons, not least child safety and vulnerability.
The licence, if approved, would have also affected local residents in other ways, including an increase in noise and nuisance from people leaving the park at night having enjoyed listening to loud music until late in the evening.
It is with great pleasure that I could announce on Tuesday that we had succeeded! The application was withdrawn due to the high number of objections the council had received.
This is obviously a huge success for us all and a great example of how our community spirit can make the difference.
However, it seems the council are continuing to try to find a way to push this through despite the strong feeling about this issue. I have been informed that there will be an open evening at the Hub hosted by Daisys with officers and councillors. This will enable them to try and force the Alcohol licence through.
We need to keep the pressure up!
Having spoken with many of our neighbours, I have come to the conclusion that I must start this petition to ensure our voices are heard!

Totally agree alcohol shouldn’t be served around areas where children prodiminately play! Alcohol affects behaviour in such a negative way and something no child should need to witness/encounter - I certainly don’t want my children to encounter drunken behaviour when they’ve gone to the park for a fun day out!
This licence application is too broad. Booze with music and performers, 11am to 11pm, 7 days a week - adjacent to kids' play area. Even the pubs don't don't serve for such long hours.
I do not think that this is at all appropriate. Most people using this facility need to use cars to get to the park so there is a risk of drink / driving and the general nuisance of noise / debris is inappropriate in this location.
I use this Park and pools with my 3 special needs children. I think it is disgraceful they want a license to sell alcohol on the premises. There will be no safe places for our children to go to in Watford. Parks are already being destroyed by alcohol and drugs as it is, we can't let that happen to a pure beautiful family based Park!
There are enough wine bars and public houses in Watford without licensing one in a park of natural beauty that serves the local community for a family venue. The problem with litter, alcohol and drug use is prevalent now and not controlled. The increased availability will only add to this. Who will monitor the exits of the park when patrons leave after closing time.?

A licence to serve alcohol will cause unruly behaviour, even if limited to beer and wine. Recent LD literature indicates they will cave in for the usual reasons. The venue has never served alcohol and is 5 mins walk from Watford Grammar School for Boys. For the sake of community harmony, a licence should never be granted.
