You are the president of the volleyball program of each your respective schools, and I need your help. My name is Ian Zalewski and I am a senior that plays on the University of Illinois’ Club Volleyball team.

I am asking you to help us out by signing our petition to have a 3rd ex Varsity athlete (I use that term loosely) play for our club team in the 2018-2019 season. Below I will give you his story and explain why I think Alec Horne should be allowed to play this season:

To preface, I’m not even sure he’s going start this year, but its Alec’s senior season this schoolyear. He attended a small D3 school in Illinois his freshman year were he made the junior varsity team in its inaugural season. He played with the junior varsity team for all of the Fall of the 2015 preseason and the start of Spring 2016. However, after several injuries Alec was moved up to varsity about ¼ of the way into the spring season where he played in 22% of all total sets.

He then transferred to the University of Illinois his sophomore year and played on the club team. He made the one’s team but was the second defense specialist off the bench and got very limited playing time his sophomore year. Then going into junior year. I transferred in and now the problem arose where we now had 3 ex “Varsity athletes” between me, Alec, and last year’s president Wes Blodig. So we took a vote as a team, and he was cut and could not play, and became our coach last year.

Now this is where we are currently at. It is all three of our last year to play organized volleyball, and at the end of the day, club is supposed to be about having fun and I want to let him do that this year. He served his time by sitting out last year and the rules state that situations are case by case and I think this is a very liable case to have him play.

He only played a small portion his freshman year at north central due to injuries, he then did not start on the club team his sophomore year, and last year he was our coach and didn’t play at all on any team.

If you agree with me in this matter I would very much appreciate you signing your name and the school name of the program you run. If not or you want to know more information on the matter, shoot me a text at (708) 751-7007. This is our last year to play in the NCVF and I just want us to have fun with it.

Thank you so much for your time,

Ohio State agrees. Rules like this are way too strict for club sports.
