Dear Mr Schiano,

The fan base of the University of Tennessee Volunteers owe you an apology.

We turned allegations into fact. We unfairly tweeted, chanted, and rallied around hearsay. Let me and all the undersigned say to you and your family, on behalf of John Currie, we are sorry.

The truth is, you never should've been put in this position to begin with. The events of the last 24 hours are telling that our Athletic Director had clearly not conducted a thorough search. Under a more traditional search methodology, this would have been quietly dismissed. No mattresses would've been burned, and no rocks would've been painted.

Our fan base was presented this news, with limited time to meaningfully act upon it. We panicked.

Morality really was a driving force of ours, but we weren't given time to reasonably consider anything. The clock was ticking, and we acted drastically..

We were expected, in our already beleaguered state, to FOREVER connect ourselves (no matter how unproven) to Jerry Sandusky. You don't want to be connected to that either.

John Currie shouldn't have asked us to accept that. He shouldn't have tried to do this alone.

Once again, the most sincere of apologies to you Mr. Schiano. We could've handled this better, especially if we would've been asked.

Sincerely,

The Caretakers
