Well-rounded
citizens don't eliminate forums aimed at facilitating discussions that
bring different enclaves of society together. Why would we want to do
that with our education? On Wednesday, March 6th, the Augustana faculty will vote on whether or not to eliminate the requirement of a Capstone course for seniors to graduate. Capstones
are intended to join professors and students from across disciplines
together and allow them to add their different perspectives to the
material creating an enriched learning environment. Much of the talk has centered on those students who have had a negative experience in their own Capstone, but there are students who view the Capstone positively as well. The goal of this petition is to let the Administration know that the entire student body does not view them as a waste of time, but think they have value. We as students acknowledge that there needs to be a re-evaluation and restructuring of some courses, but we do not want to see them eliminated completely. Therefore, we ask you to postpone the vote until a later date, so that more open and honest dialogue can happen on both sides and the decision can be one that benefits both parties. Thank you!
