Dear Los Angeles County Parks and Recreations,
The Altadena community would like to express our full support for Badon Tennis Academy's to receive a multi-year contract for the tennis courts at Loma Alta Park. As a member of this community, we believe that granting Badon Tennis Academy a multi-year contract is crucial to increasing access to quality tennis services throughout the county.
The Tennis Industry Association is reporting that there are over 23.6 million tennis players in the U.S. as of 2023. A 33% increase since 2020. Tennis has historically been a core program for public parks and recreation departments with 70% of tennis being played at public parks.
Badon Tennis Academy has shown itself as an essential part of our community by providing top-notch coaching programs for players of all ages and skill levels since 2002. Badon Tennis Academy has also created a positive impact in our area with their commitment to fostering social cohesion within our communities by promoting healthy relationships between families from different cultural backgrounds.
Badon Tennis Academy’s scholarship have allowed many children who would otherwise not be able to afford such training an opportunity to participate in the sport tennis, which eventually funnels them into colleges and universities through athletic scholarships.
The Badon Tennis Academy understands the importance of inclusivity, which has resulted in the offering of scholarship opportunities for underserved communities. This approach aligns with goals towards upgrading park amenities by making them safe, accessible, and providing enriching opportunities for members within our community.
With your support, the Altadena community can enjoy more tennis and Badon Tennis Academy can continue making a positive impact on the Altadena community while contributing positively to sports equity in our neighborhoods.

Service Community Dedication Scholarship
- The Director of Badon Tennis Academy is Veronica Badon, acknowledged by the Los Angeles City Council, with an award, commending accomplishments in tennis. Badon is a two time All-American Athlete, #1 in the West and #7 in the Nation NCAA (D2) and #1 in Southern California Open Women’s Singles.
- An Altadena native, Veronica Badon is a United States Professional Tennis Association certified instructor and has taught tennis professionally for over 30 years. She has had several students ranked inside the top 30 and 2 students ranked #1 in Southern California.
- Badon Tennis Academy was founded in 2002 by Veronica Badon at Loma Alta Park in Altadena, Ca. Veronica is grateful for the opportunity given to her to start a tennis program at Loma Alta Park.
- Veronica Badon has helped many students earn college tennis scholarships, academic and leadership scholarships.
- Badon Tennis Academy has personally provided over $100,000 in scholarship to youth in the junior program.
- In 2007 The Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation awarded Veronica Badon use of an unused room at Loma Alta Park. We named it “The Club House”. It has become our gathering place, our library and our summer tutoring room. Our students love to read and play board games there. We have our U.S.T.A. Team Tennis parties in the club house as well. In 2019 we hope to have the internet which will allow us to stream professional tennis matches. The internet will also bring access to Altadena library books.
- Veronica Badon seeks to promote the enjoyment of tennis by assisting tennis enthusiast of all ages to improve their level of play.
- Badon Tennis Academy has provided over 500 hours of free academic tutoring for Badon Tennis students over the past 10 years.
- In January 2019, we provided our first 12 week tutoring session.
- We gave three academic tutoring scholarships to children from the Rosebud and Odyssey schools.
- In 2021 Badon Tennis established The “Tennis Book Club”.
- Since 2021 Veronica Badon of Badon Tennis Academy became Tennis Coach at John Muir High School. John Muir has not had a tennis program for 20 years. Starting from scratch we have shown a willingness to serve, dedication and we have donated over 300 hours of tennis lessons to the tennis program after school. ($25,000 from 2021 through 2023).
