The ice cream truck parked at Del Mar School has no healthy choices, and is in direct violation of the Reed School Wellness program, which teaches our children about healthy food. Because it is inches away from school property, the school cannot ban it. Because of the crowds of kids around the truck after school, the truck presents a safety issue on this congested street as cars are coming and going at school recess.

San Francisco banned food/ice cream trucks from their schools years ago, and Novato banned these trucks in 2011.  In a unanimous vote, the Reed School Board has recommended that the Tiburon Town Council ban the ice cream truck around Tiburon schools during school hours.  This is now an agenda item at Town Council's meeting on Wednesday, August 1, in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 1505 Tiburon Boulevard.

This does not ban the ice cream truck from town parks or from circling the town streets.  The truck will still be able to park near the schools, just beyond the distance mandated by the town council. There is no intention to ban candy or ice cream sales from any other location in Tiburon! This request is purely because of 1) the direct conflict between the food choices in the truck vs. the Reed School Wellness Policy, and 2) the safety concerns about the truck in the drop off/pick up zone.

Please show your support for banning the ice cream truck around our schools by signing this petition. And please forward this to your friends! Thank you!
