Bath Beach Brooklyn Cleanup/improvement
PETITION FOR BATH BEACH CLEAN-UP August 17, 2009 To: City Council Member and Mayor Bloomberg: We, the homeowners and residents of the Condos and homes of the Bath Beach area, the undersigned are in support of cleaning up and beautifying the area of Bath Beach: Specifically, 1) Bath Avenue from 16th Avenue to 19th Avenue And 2) The recreational area south of the Belt Parkway, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, herein referred to as “The Bay” between 4th Avenue and Bay Parkway. In addition we would like the NYPD to increase surveillance of these areas. 1. On the corner of Bay 16th and Bath Avenue, exists an open construction site of approx. 50 ft long, 10ft wide, and 20 ft deep, that has not been worked on since no more recently than January 2009. Trash has been accumulating on this site and also poses as a danger to the children in our community. Children have been observed climbing into this site. This affects the value of our neighborhood and the accumulation of trash is hazardous. We kindly ask for the construction to be completed and the street on Bay 16th St, between Bath Ave and Cropsey Ave to be repaved after the construction. 2. On Bath Avenue, from 16th Avenue to 18th Avenue, litter from businesses and pedestrians can be seen everywhere due to a lack of trash cans on the corners and business owners’ irresponsibility in cleaning up their trash. We kindly ask for trash cans on every street corner and business owners to be made accountable for cleaning their areas. 3. “The Bay” has long been an attraction for families and children. In order to make the area more welcoming and accommodate the increase in families visiting the area for morning strolls or picnics, we kindly ask to: 1) Have the graffiti cleaned up. 2) New benches installed. 3) Garbage cans put in every 50ft. 4) The path repaved. 5) The grass and shrubbery be maintained regularly. 6) Repair the 17th Avenue Bridge Belt Parkway overpass. 7) Increase patrol of the area to reduce vandalism and graffiti in the area. 4. Crime has gone up in the neighborhood. Reported and unreported cases of thefts, vandalism, robberies have been experienced by many in the neighborhood. With the increase of Condominiums and higher income families living in the neighborhood we strongly request the city to provide more NYPD Patrols between the area of 16th avenue and Bay Parkway. We have enclosed pictures for your review of the areas. Thank you for your time and support. Sincerely, Residents of the Bath Beach Area.
