The proposed Berkeley Ironworks Training Facility is an amazing addition to an impressive chain of climbing facilities. Members are excited that Touchstone has decided to invest in new equipment and the youth team, but are disappointed that the hours of the facility are so limited.
Most of Touchstone's members are working adults and many must use the facilities in the morning or immediately after work, especially those with families or other commitments that prevent them from going in the 4 hour window.
While open on the weekends, many if not most of the members that would be using the training equipment would likely be outside on the rock.
Several gyms and gym chains that are smaller than Touchstone in the United States including The Front, Seattle Bouldering Project, the Momentum chain, GP-81, Sender One, etc. do not limit member hours on their training equipment. While most of these facilities are in the same building, a single employee often keeps watch over the area. We do not feel that this is too much to ask.We understand that the comp boulders and speed wall are extremely specific to the goals of the youth team and would appreciate consideration and discussion of any of the following options:1. Access to at least one training board during normal hours, including 4PM-7PM. Whatever the team doesn't want we would be glad to share among non-team members.2. Access to the facility during normal hours not including team hours.3. A block in the morning for working adults who have family commitments during later hours to benefit from the facility.4. Offer members access to the facility during expanded hours for an additional membership fee. This will keep the number of members using the facility naturally smaller.For any questions please email [email protected].

Would love as much access as possible. I've mostly stopped climbing at the gym because it's so crowded, just sticking to cardio and weights and climbing outside. I'd love to do more climbing specific training indoors during the week.
I would 100% use the gym in morning/mid-day hours.
Ironworks alumni who will likely be returning in the near future
In the short time (3 yrs) I've been a member the rates have jumped from $78/mo to $87/mo now I believe. There have been no changes to the actual gym. This new training facility is only open to paying members for 4 hrs on work nights for most of us which makes it not feasible to get steady training in. The majority of the crowding issues in the gym are adults who pay for facilities, therefore since we make up more of your client base then the 20 or so kids on the team the facility should be open more then just 7pm to 11pm. This will ease the pain of the steady price hikes if we had steady access to this new training facility. Some of us train specifically in the morning to help minimize the after work crowds. For the amount we pay for membership with no improvements being made to the actual gym ( other than the bathrooms) it seems silly to ask clients to continue to pay these high fees for kids to train. It seems building your team of young crushers is taking prescendent over making the gym/training experience better for the larger part of your income ( adults paying monthly memberships). If this is not remedied shortly I will no longer remain a member with the TS family as I no longer feel a part of the TS family but more of a source of income to fund their other interests.

really hope they fix these hours. i work till 6 and cant make the current schedule work at all. need more flexibility for actual training.
