TRAFFIC SIGNAL in Silver Lake, L.A. is to be INSTALLED by JULY 2007!
TRAFFIC SIGNAL TO BE INSTALLED BY JULY 2007! ###################################### ###################################### From Councilman Tom LaBonge\'s Office: Dear Residents & Concerned Citizens: Many of you may have heard of the recent tragic death of Silver Lake resident Bill Wingard who attempted to cross Hyperion Avenue at the Monon Street crosswalk. We are very sorry for this loss to his family, his friends and this community. In mid-year 2006, the Department of Transportation authorized a full traffic signal for this very intersection of Hyperion Avenue and Monon Street. Currently, the department is engineering the installation and construction of the signal is expected to start construction in April with completion in July. This is the second signal to be installed in our area. Late in 2006, the signal at Riverside Drive and the Glendale Boulevard offramp of the Golden State Freeway was installed is now in full operation. Last July, this office led a community meeting at Fire Station 56 with staff of DOT to take input on effective ways to reduce speeding and increase safety along Rowena, Hyperion, Silver Lake Drive and other busy area streets. We directed DOT staff to study the feasibility of instituting a number of traffic calming measures to meet these goals * some of which are already in place. Please see attached DOT memo. We encourage you to communicate with us regarding public safety improvements. Please feel free to call me at City Hall at (213) 485-3337 or your field deputy, Patty Malone at (818) 755-7893. Sincerely, TOM LABONGE Councilmember, 4th District Patty Malone Field Deputy Councilmember Tom LaBonge Ph.
