As students of Canon McMillian School District, we would like to have the privilege of bus passes back, for a number of reasons.
First, due to construction to expand the school (2017) very few students, if that, will be able to drive to school. Making it very hard for students to get to work, home, or to a family emergency in time, however there is an option to ride a bus to a different location (near work). But because our privilege of using bus passes was taken away, by an unexplained reason, students can no longer go anywhere but home, unless they are picked up by parents or friends who can drive to the student pick up area at 2:40pm, when school is out for the day. However, parents who work later times and can not provide transportation to pick up their children also have a disadvantage. Many students work right after school around 3-4 pm and can not get to work on time due to having to go all the way home first.
Also, after school hours are made for socializing. Working hard throughout the school day can be stressful for some, and looking forward to friend hangouts after school is a huge motivation boost for many. Being social is needed for a healthy life style, and for some students school really isnt a place to socialize, but to learn.
Next, Out of school extracurricular activities may involve a group of students needing to meet up at one anothers home. Some parents are unable to pick up that group of students to take them to an activity, making it more difficult for everyone else, especially if one person lives right beside the destination they need to go to.
Last, younger kids in the district may need to go home with a friend or another family member, if their parents are working. Due to no more bus passes, it makes it harder for parents to make sure their children are safe and are being watched by trusted gardian adults.

The stories coming in from students about the daily struggle to balance jobs and extracurriculars highlight exactly why this transportation policy needs another look. It is clear that the current restrictions are placing a genuine burden on families who rely on consistent transit options. I am currently reaching out to local representatives to ensure they understand how these logistical hurdles affect our community.

Seeing this progress unfold reminds me that the daily stresses we face are shared by so many within our community. This momentum proves that our need for simple, reliable transportation is far more than an inconvenience for a single person. It is a collective recognition that our time away from the classroom deserves respect.

I've had to rely a couple times on my kids going home with a friend due to family emergencies or getting stuck in traffic. I understand this can lead to confusion, but sometimes there's unforeseen circumstances that occur throughout the day or even a day or so before and it's helpful for us to be able to make arrangements for our children to go home with a friend.
Bus passes are necessary for after school activities such as sports, scouts and volunteering as well as working. For years both parents and students have depended on them to keep their kids from being home alone.
Being a parent of cheerleader and a child who works I am thinking you are going to have to institute and activities bus or something . These kids riding with each after school (car pooling ) was the only thing that made their crazy schedules work my daughter has after school activities everyday !
I understand busses are packed and it's hard to fit everyone. If coming on without a pass is a concern then the bus driver should ask too. There should be a certain amount to a bus a day when it comes to that. I believe Canon Mac can find a better way to do this besides completely saying no passes because sometimes we need to do that for certain reasons and it's unfair to those WHO NEED TOO compared to who wanted to go home with their friends...
I would like my daughter to be able to get a bus to work or to a friends or relatives home. It is ridiculous to have to drive to the school to pick them up and take them somewhere they use to just take the bus to. its a waste of time, gas and social skills. bus passes need regulated- Not completely taken away! Please reinstate them- Now!
Damn right we should be able to go where we want as long as a parent signs
People sneak on the buses without bus passes but some bus drivers like mine will kick u and ur friend off the bus then drive away this is y we need us passes back

I can remember when I was in school it was easier for me to get my to my grand parents or a friends house on a Friday night with these bus passes. Finally, having easy access to bus passes especially for highschool students gives them not only responsibility but it teaches them indepenace and gives them a sense of navigational skills due to they need to know which bus to get on for their final destination
