We, the undersigned residents of Stony Point, request the Town to participate in a proven, innovative clean energy program called Rockland Community Power. This program would make renewable energy available to residents at a competitive, fixed rate, and allow free choice for those who want to opt out of the program.

Rockland Community Power is a proven success, delivering clean energy and cost savings currently to five Rockland communities. By the fall of 2022, the five original communities will renew, plus five more Rockland municipalities are planning to participate in this program. This represents over half of Rockland’s population. Through this large aggregate, residents and small businesses may purchase renewable electricity at a guaranteed fixed rate.

So far, through this program, residents in the currently participating communities have saved over $5.58 million. The fixed rates have protected participants from rate spikes over this last year. Over a period of twenty months, households in the program have saved over $170 in energy costs.

Why should Stony Point residents not enjoy the same benefits? Benefits which include:

+ ORU continuing as our utility and service provider
+ 100% clean energy at competitive, fixed rates
+ Strong consumer protection: no contracts, fixed rates, and no exit fees. No bait and switch.
+ More choices for consumers, anyone can opt-out of the program at any time.

Here is an easy step we can take as a community, which will have a major impact on our emissions and help ensure clean air, as well, while also helping to keep energy costs down.

So far, even after years of attempts to have the Stony Point Town Board join this program, they have refused to even schedule a public discussion. We now need to have citizens step up and insist that Stony Point join the other 10 participating Rockland County municipalities. It makes sense from an economic perspective and will help our community transition to sustainable energy. It's time for the Supervisor and Town Board to bring Stony Point into this program.
