Proviso West High School Boys Basketball Teams had a stellar reputation for high-level basketball. In the past 3 - 4 years, there has been a decline in that reputation. The level of teaching basketball is obsolete. The fundamentals of the game are not being taught. This can be evidenced by Proviso West consistently being at the bottom of the West Suburban - Silver Conference. They have not reached the winner's bracket of their own holiday tournament in several years. Led by the current coach, Dwon Kelly, the Proviso West Boys Basketball Team has won a dismal 35% of their games. The losing record has tremendously affected game attendance. There are never more than a couple of people that attend the games because of the constant losing.

We believe there is a tremendous amount of talent that walks the halls of Proviso West High School. This talent must be nurtured and skillfully developed to compete at a high level. We, the alumni, past players, coaches, and community, believe that the current coach, Dwon Kelly, needs to resign or be let go immediately. This program deserves a coach with a pedigree for winning, developing, and retaining top-tier talent. A coach that will lead and teach effectively to ultimately build the program back up from the lowest level it has been at for years. A coach that will assist and position players to attain athletic/academic scholarships.

Dwon Kelly's mother, Theresa Kelly, has been a long-time board member of District 209. If any other coach had this low winning percentage, they would have been let go.

Please sign the petition if you believe it is time to bring in a capable and competent coach. A coach that will rebuild and restore the basketball program to a competitive level.
