With regard to the Brookline, NH Selectboard's June 19, 2017 vote to cancel the "TAP-2" Sidewalk/Trail project, this petition is to plead with The Board to:

1. Recognize their duty to represent the taxpayers/voters of the town,

2. Recognize that the taxpayers overwhelmingly voted for the TAP-2 Sidewalk/Trail project to be funded (80% grant, 20% Brookline),

3. Consult with the Selectboard-Appointed Sidewalk-Trail Committee on the project and the long-term plan (this includes the alternatives to the subject TAP-2 project that were considered)

4. Reconsider the cancellation of the TAP-2 project

5. Re-vote to support, affirm, uphold, and represent the decision of the Brookline taxpayers/voters and continue the TAP-2 project.

The Selectboard completely ignored the will of this town but this momentum proves they cannot hide from us anymore. We have the numbers now to force them to explain why they think they know better than the taxpayers who voted for this project.

The sidewalk project has enhanced the character of Brookline. Not only does it improve safety but makes our town welcoming and more attractive to business, families, and maybe someday seniors.

I attended the Selectboard meeting on 6/19/17, on behalf of the 2017 Sidewalk and Trails Committee. I was not permitted to speak on the topic and convey information to the Selectboard before, during, or after their pre-emptive vote. They themselves did not have a pubic discussion that meeting prior to the motion to deny TAP-2 grant funds ($540,000 grant funds). In addition to the lack of public input, the civility expected from many on our Selectboard was not present among themselves or the audience.

While each of the Selectboard members have their own personal desires for our Town, some need to be reminded about representing the residents/taxpayers in their role. They are not empowered to over-rule our votes. We have many talented, respectable and trustworthy people in our town (currently serving on various committees, community organizations, appointed positions and volunteer and support roles, including those on the Selectboard), some are learning their way, some may make mistakes along the way, some are doing a fine job...but no one should ever try to publicly humiliate another member of this community or disregard our votes.

I believe the people voted. If the board overrules what the people decided upon at Town Meeting, having a Town Meeting is meaningless.

The Selectboard needs to start representing the voters in Brookline...Not. themselves. We live in a democracy.*

Our board needs to represent us. We were informed when we voted in March and nothing has changed.
