Brookline Recreation & Community Center Dedication
I hereby call into action the community/neighborhood of Brookline located in Pittsburgh, PA. The action we are requesting you to acknowledge and agree to by signing this petition is to have the Brookline Recreation & Community Center located at 1399 Oakridge St. Pittsburgh, PA 15226, dedicated to one Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Richard Lopez Sr. The Brookline Rec Center was constructed in 1969 with 'Rudy' being one of the lead masons on the project. Since the opening of the center, Rudy has been playing basketball or 'shootin' hoops' there every day with the exception of the days it closed due to financial restraints of the city, renovations, and knee surgeries. During the renovations to the center in 2010, there were some questions that the drawings could not determine, below is an excerpt from Brookline Connection regarding what a help Rudy was:
Brookline Connection: When they remodeled the Rec a couple years back, there was some questions about the masonry and load-bearing capabilities of some of the walls. The drawings didn't provide conclusive evidence, so we just called Rudy. Hey, he built the walls. After a short walk-about it was decided that the place was built like a tank and that the walls were sound. Good job Rudy! Nothing like old school craftsmanship.
Rudy has been, and continues to be, a fixture at the center for the last 45 years. He has sponsored many basketball teams to get kids active, off the streets, and out of trouble. Join us in our quest to have this center he has given so much to dedicated, to someone so deserving, none other than Rudy himself.
