Calero Graduation Caps
Our last request as seniors is to decorate our graduation caps. While it is understandable to want to have a look of unity, our individuality and creativity should be allowed to shine through. The Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case defined that our rights should not be violated at school unless it will "materially and substantially interfere" with operation of the school, Freedom of expression is important and a constitutional right. Decorating our caps in no way interferes or interrupts the school's graduation ceremony. It is understandable that staff may be afraid of someone being offensive; hence, if deemed inappropriate during graduation day, then staff should withhold that person from walking the stage. Calero is unique and so are we. We hope you will consider and accept this proposal.
