Call for Parking Dispensation for Religious Institutions in Wembley During Event Days
We, the undersigned, call on the local authorities to provide parking dispensations for religious institutions in Wembley during event days at Wembley Stadium. While we appreciate the positive impact that these events bring to our local economy, they also pose significant challenges for religious venues in the area that serve our community far beyond worship services, including through extensive community outreach, charitable activities, and support programs.
Religious institutions like Potters House Church on High Road, Wembley, are deeply committed to creating inclusive and supportive environments for their congregations and the broader community. Many individuals and families who attend services rely on private transportation, particularly those dealing with personal challenges such as abuse, depression, and other forms of hardship. The current parking restrictions, which extend from midnight to midnight on event days, make it nearly impossible for worshippers to find suitable parking, especially on days when important community programs like youth engagement take place.
In the words of Pastor Jimmy Robinson of Potters House Church:
“While we understand and appreciate the benefits that the stadium and its events bring to our local economy, it is essential to recognise that community churches like ours are adversely affected. The high demand for parking means that many spaces are pre-booked well in advance, and the limited availability of two-hour parking leaves our congregation struggling to find suitable options.”
We respectfully request that the local authorities implement a parking code or concession for religious venues on event days, similar to the arrangements made for funerals. This measure would greatly assist congregations in accessing their places of worship without the added stress and burden of parking difficulties. Without such support, the increasing frequency of events at Wembley Stadium will continue to disrupt the ability of places of worship to serve their communities effectively.
Religious institutions play a critical role in our community, providing not only spiritual guidance but also a wide array of social services that benefit the vulnerable and underserved. It is crucial that we find a balanced approach that recognizes the contributions of these institutions and ensures their continued ability to operate without undue hardship.
By signing this petition, we urge local authorities to take immediate action to provide parking dispensations for religious institutions in Wembley on event days, allowing them to continue their vital work for our community.
