More security for on campus students
In an ideal world, we would not require security guards, swipe cards or corridor locks. Unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world and it has come to our attention that the precautions that are already put in place for on-campus security for Bond University resident students are not enough. You would all have heard of such incidents as non-students wandering the halls of the blocks or resident's cars' tyres being slashed, windows broken, roof's dented and more. It is time that security was increased around the campus residences - THIS IS OUR HOME. We have a right to live in a safe environment - up until recent times, this has been the case for the most part, but when there is a large group of students who no longer feel as safe as they used to or deserve to be, something needs to be done. This is a petition for the increase of security for on-campus students. -Visible, fixed cameras upon entrance of the University -Combination high resolution, high range infared/normal fixed cameras to provide 24hr security & intruder recognition for car parks so that vandals and thieves are caught in the act -Fixed cameras in stairwells and foyers of residences to gain footage of potential intruders -All entrances to residences to be automatic doors with swipe card entrance -To avoid fire doors being propped open, changing the locks to allow access with a hallway key -Fire cupboards to be security sealed -Cameras covering all paths to and from all residences -Increased lighting on all paths to and from all residences -Fixed thermal cameras for all areas with heavy foliage -Vegetation to be cut back and maintained to allow for more vision and no "hiding places"; current vegetation in the blocks to be removed and replaced with trimmed hedging no higher than 700mm -All security measures to be analyzed by external security contractor and amended as necessary Please sign this petition if you are concerned about the level of security for on-campus students using your STUDENT I.D. and EMAIL when possible (not anonymous). If you are making comments, we request that you keep them clean and constructive. This is not a forum for whinging or whining - we appreciate the level of security we already have however there is a group of us who wish to improve this further. Thank you for your time and please pass this on to all who you think may have an interest.
