To the Bureau of Early Intervention:
We, the Service Coordinators of New York Early Intervention, petition the cancellation of the reinstatement of IFSP meetings to be held in person that are expected to go into effect on August 15, 2022. During the past 2 years, while IFSP team members have conducted these meetings via phone, Service Coordinators have been more productive in their work by eliminating the need to travel to EIP offices. Travel time, coupled with many missed appointments due to families being a no show, have cost Service Coordinators much wasted time in the past for the IFSP meetings held in person. Remote IFSPs result in fewer cancellations, more efficient and streamlined meetings (prompt start and end times), and less transportation and parking costs for parents, EI personnel, and service coordinators. Additionally, the one hour long “in person” meetings are held in small conference rooms, which is a potential health hazard to Parents, children, EIOD’s and Service Coordinators. In hopes to mitigate the spread of COVID, it is in everyone’s best interest to keep phone meetings as the preferred method of conducting IFSP’s.

Romote is more efficient. Parents don't have to worry about getting to the site on time because of train issues and gas prices is going up and SC's that drive no one will reimburse them if someone is a no show.
I currently work as an SC and have to quit due to the meeting being in person. I live with my grandmother and value her. I love working with he families., but unfortunately I can not continue doing this job that I love to do!
Most parents prefer phone meetings, and these meetings are efficient on the phone and are less of an inconvenience when meetings are usually only up to 30 minutes do it is unnecessary to be in person.
The amount of IFSP meetings I have had cancelled due to parent forgetting, or NOS was ridiculous, so my time traveling to the regional office was a waste, having remote meetings will ensure that all meetings get done and will def be more effective for all parties
Family Driven program right? This has been such a beneficial change for the family and speeds up the process so children are provided services without the delay. This would be a step in the wrong direction with bringing this program to the current times.
Very convenient for the families.
I want to make this commend, food for though. There are lots of Single parents that have lost love ones during the Pandemic, and are still as our New Mayor is aware of the struggle to pay for child care. Just, imagine to have to pay for childcare in order for a parent to attend an IFSP meeting, or to struggle with one or more children on the train, and to add more difficult to a family that may be going through hardship the worst thing that can happen is that the child's parents may even lose a day of pay. however we may never know this as the parent may keep it to her or himself. There is a lot people with emotional problems around the city, crime went up and the regional offices do not have enough space to have the EIODs, parents and children, evals reps and SCs in one small office.
