As you’ll have undoubtedly
read from my email a couple of weeks ago, the foundations knowledge and
practice module is made up of eight elements but the final grade consists of
just the mark from your PAD and BF OSCE. Amongst many things I should expect
your wondering why we have had to do all that other work, when it has meant
nothing to the grade for the module. For some though, their grade will be
capped at 40% because they didn’t pass their OSCE which seems utterly ludicrous
especially as the PAD is a year long assessment on our skills and competencies
in real life situations and the OSCE is a 30 examination on a simulated
situation.
What is even more shocking
is that someone who has not completed their PHV’s, reflections, Medicine
management workbook, breastfeeding workbook, story sharing or got the minimum
amount of EU numbers this year will be able to gain a decent grade if they completed
both their PAD and OSCE – not that fair to everyone who has completed
everything but flummoxed in a pressurised simulated exam.
So what is this petition
for? Well I can’t ask the university to look at the way they mark the module,
just because a couple of people have said they don’t think it’s fair. What I
need is evidence!! Evidence from you, the students. You may be reading this and
thinking “I completely agree with the way the university mark the unit” and
that is fine, but if there is an inch of doubt in your minds that the way they
mark this unit is wrong, please do sign. I have personally received many emails
and spoken to a lot of students who aren’t happy so I hope this petition will
be a success.
Signing the petition
couldn’t be easier and all you need to do is enter your name (you have an
option to remain anonymous), email address and any comments you wish to leave.
I will then present the petition to the lecturers in the hope that they will
re-think the marking scheme for this unit.
I can’t guarantee that
anything will change for our year (in fact I’m sure it won’t) but just think
how much the new students starting in a couple of weeks will benefit from it.
Many thanks in
anticipation

its honestly such a joke that the workbooks dont even count towards the final grade. we spend so many hours on them just for absolutely nothing its so demoralizing.
