We the village of Chastleton in West Oxfordshire and friends of the village strongly condemn the National Trust for breaking it's word on limiting visitor numbers, by-passing the planning system, and failing to take in to account the impact on the village of opening Chastleton Houseon Sunday . We the undersigned, stand by the village and understand that the impact of 30,000 visitors on a small village of 80 or so homes and farms is causing environmental damage, including traffic nuisance, destruction ofverges, invasion of privacy, pollution and litter. We also object tothe National Trust's refusal to negotiate on any limits on visitor numbers, hours of opening and activities. This is Localism not nimbyism

I have spent my week documenting the latest traffic jams and ruined verges to bring a mounting list of evidence to the parish council meetings. The silence from the National Trust is deafening while our quiet lanes are being choked by visitors who have no respect for the place I call home.

Seeing this level of support for our small village feels overwhelming. It confirms that people understand why we cannot allow our quiet streets to be overwhelmed by this reckless expansion.

I am appalled at the approach taken by The National Trust. Their profit requirements can be met by more acceptable means.

I am extremely disappointed in the National Trust, in spite of having been a member for twenty years. Their unsympathetic commercialism concerns me. I expect better from such a national organisation.

Used to love visiting but the crowds nowadays are ridiculous. Chastleton isnt built to handle this many people. They need to listen to the villagers.

Our verges are completely destroyed and the litter is everywhere. I thought the trust was supposed to protect the countryside not ruin it.

The traffic is just getting out of hand. You cant even walk down the lane on a sunday without worrying about cars speeding through. It used to be such a quiet place.

THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE RESIDENTS. They just want the money and dont care about the mess or the noise. Totally unacceptable.
