Please sign the petition to replace the CHS Football Stadium turf this year. Now

The recent bond package included new turf on the CHS high school football field - now the word is, “it won’t be replaced this year.”

When the bond issue was presented to the community last year, CISD did a thorough job in laying out all the items that needed replacing, repairing or building. The high school stadium turf was identified as a high priority on that list for replacement because:

A. It is worn out. Noticeable signs of wear and degraded ability to protect the kids.

B. It has exceeded its original life expectation of +/- 7 years by several years.

C. Newer, better and safer solutions are now available.

Once the bond passed, CISD apparently adjusted the priority list. The turf replacement that motivated many of us to get out and vote is now a diminished priority. We need to get back on track – and focus on the priorities as they were originally identified and voted on.

THE TURF MUST BE REPLACED NOW: The football team made it through spring ball with new wounds every day. The healing process is difficult at best because burns get re-ripped during the next practice. And then of course, staph infection is a constant concern. What will the fall bring? Don’t our athletes deserve better?

THE TURF REPLACEMENT IS A MATTER OF HEALTH: The aesthetic properties may be fine – but the real concern is the safety or our athletes from both injuries and infection. Newer solutions provide greater protection from both.

We need your signature so that the CISD school board understands we want our CHS athletes to stay healthy. Let’s show CISD we want our children to be better protected!

Updates

June 23, 2014

I spent the afternoon watching practice and seeing the players bandage up the same recurring turf burns. It is infuriating to know this was promised to them while they continue to put their health at risk on that worn out surface.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting because it confirms that our community refuses to accept these dangerous conditions for our players. Watching my own kid come home with another turf burn is a constant reminder of why we are doing this. We are finally getting the attention this issue deserves.

Ridiculous. My kid plays on that field and it basically looks like concrete in some spots. Replace it already!

My son came home with 3 turf burns yesterday. It is honestly gross how bad that field has gotten. Fix it.

Safety first right? Then why ignore the field. Just get it done.

We voted for that bond for a reason. Quit moving the goalposts on our kids safety.

Staph infections are no joke. Why are they waiting for someone to get seriously hurt before doing what they promised?

Total bait and switch by the district. Do what you said you were going to do.
