College Student Drug Abuse Awareness
23.3% of full-time college students in the 18-22 age group were current illegal drug users
Full-time college student are twice as likely to use stimulant for non-medical reasons.
Some ways to tell if a friend or loved one is abusing drugs or alcohol is decreased interest in classes, withdrawing from friends and/or family, acting secretive, change in personality, and mood swings or depression. Drugs abused in college include stimulants (Ritalin, Adderall), anxiety meds, sleeping pills, and painkillers.
Students misuse prescription drugs to:
- Diet
- Get high
- Reduce stress
- Ignore problems
- Improve concentration
We believe that college and university students should form groups where, if any students are suffering with these problems can go to get help. If they aren't comfortable meeting with a counselor or psychologist.
