Communion on the Tongue
Archbishop Gustavo-Garcia Siller,
We, the Laity of the One Holy and Apostolic
Catholic Church respectfully request that you reverse your decree banning Holy
Communion on the tongue without delay. Redemptionis Sacramentum – 92, “… each
of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue,
at his choice…” Your Excellency, this is not a matter of safety. Even the USCCB has determined that communion on the tongue does not pose any more of a risk than receiving on the hand. Other North
American dioceses, many in Texas as close as Austin are permitting reception on the tongue
with no restrictions. We do not view the reception on the tongue as a
dispensable act of piety, but as an indispensable sign of our deep respect and
love for Jesus in the Eucharist. How can we, "the faithful", in good
conscience continue to support this diocese financially when it no longer
supports us in this basic right within our own faith? Reception of Holy Communion on the tongue is still the "norm". Again, we ask that you return
to us the choice to receive the precious, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our
Lord Jesus Christ in the manner in which we feel the summit and source of our
faith deserves; on our knees and on the tongue.
The Faithful Laity of the Holy Catholic Church
