The plan is to make 7 lecturers within the Conservation Sciences Department redundant.
This must not be allowed to happen.
The dean of the department believes they can sweep this through while we are all busy (with placements or fieldwork) or away.
We have to let them know that this can't happen. Not only does it affect our courses / dissertations, but we also lose the valuable experience these lecturers have gained.
The department gains money through the research carried out by these lecturers. If we lose the proposed 7 lecturers then the department is going to suffer.
The proposal that will contain the names of those at risk will be put forward on the 12th of July.
Please join this group if you have a Conservation Science course.
We must not lose our lecturers.
I have spent the past several days reviewing the detailed feedback many of you provided regarding the proposed redundancies. The impact of losing such experienced faculty clearly extends beyond our immediate coursework and threatens the future research output of the department. I am currently preparing a formal response to present to the dean before the upcoming proposal deadline.

The momentum behind this petition clearly demonstrates that the department cannot proceed with these redundancies quietly. Your collective response confirms that the value of our lecturers is recognized by the entire community.

These lecturers are the best part of this course. Losing them would be a massive mistake for the department.

Ridiculous to do this while everyone is out on fieldwork. They think we arent paying attention but we definitely are.

The research output from this team is huge. How are they going to keep that up with fewer people? Makes no sense.
