Use Corporate Seniority throughout Chrysler
This petition is designed to influence the UAW International Union to make a change to the upcoming contract to make corporate seniority the only seniority.
Consider this: An employee at Trenton Engine plant with 12 years seniority is laid off and later picked up at Sterling Stamping as a day-one employee. At Sterling Stamping there are employees with 2 years plant seniority.
Six months later, Sterling Stamping calls a layoff. Who gets laid off? The employee with over 12 years corporate seniority who now will be picked up at another plant as a day-one employee!
This must be changed to be fair.
To do this a change must be made to article 45, paragraph d of our contract.
That paragraph currently reads:
An employee with seniority in one plant of the Corporation covered by
this Agreement or the National Parts depot agreement who is hired as a
new employee at another plant of the Corporation covered under this
agreement or the National Parts Depot agreement, shall not be required
to serve another probationary period but shall rank for seniority at the
new plant as of the date of entry into the new plant.
This needs to be changed to:
An employee with seniority in one plant of the Corporation covered by
this Agreement or the National Parts depot agreement who is hired as a
new employee at another plant of the Corporation covered under this
agreement or the National Parts Depot agreement, shall not be required
to serve another probationary period but shall rank for seniority at the
new plant as of the date of hire by the corporation.
The Chrysler employees (current and retired) signing this petition call upon the UAW to make this change to the 2011 National Agreement.
