By signing this petition, I agree that Palomares Hills should implement a food garden in the community, for the benefit of the youth and the residents. This garden will be a place of gathering for the community as well as a fountain of knowledge and nourishment.

This garden will provide:
-free organics for the residents
-food and garden education for both elementary school students and adults
-a garden away from home to garden in
-a relaxing and aesthetically pleasing environment for community residents to enjoy.
-a way for residents to lower their carbon footprint*

*How is that true? How is it that by just building a community food garden, we can all lower our carbon footprint?
Well on average each American's meal travels 1,500 miles from farm to plate. That means that in a year one person's "meal emissions" are equivalent to the CO emissions of 161 cars. If we can cut down the number of miles our food travels, we cut down the CO the truck that drove it emits. To cut the miles down, buying local is the way to go. A truck traveling from Florida will emit more than a truck that traveled from Cupertino (plane emissions are even higher).
How will the community garden help?
Every piece of produce you receive from the garden is a piece a produce that you wouldn't buy from the supermarket. Plus the garden will be organically farmed, meaning there will not be any use of chemical pesticides (or chemicals period) on the crops (good for humans and wildlife) and crops will be rotated (which is better for the soil, as it puts the nutrients back in the soil)
