D181 Math Program
We love our school district and appreciate the efforts of our teachers to educate our children.
D181 is a "resource rich" district compared to most others across the nation. We expect our children to be taught by the best teachers; with a proven curriculum and completed support materials, in reasonably sized classes.
We strongly encourage searching continually for better, tested and proven ways to enhance the education of our children. "
High performing districts" should be providing the opportunity for ALL children to be advanced learners. We expect this and insist on better performance.Specifically:
1-- We reject the notion that it is acceptable that only 50% of our children meet their expected growth targets in the Math.
2--We insist on a program to remediate the learning shortfalls so our children will be ready for the 4th grade.
3--Our children cannot be subjected another experimental, unproven, poorly executed math program for the fourth grade.
4--WE URGE THE BOARD NOT TO APPROVE AN EXPERIMENTAL FOURTH GRADE MATH PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR UNTIL THE DETAILS OF THE PLAN HAVE BEEN POSTED FOR THE COMMUNITY REVIEW AND PUBLIC COMMENT INCLUDING: REASONS FOR ITS CHOICE, PLANNED MEASURES OF SUCCESS AND A TIMELINE FOR EXECUTION.
5--Data shows the best performing districts result where parents/teachers and students working in close collaboration. Returning to this practice in our district can only have positive results.
