Dangers of the Equality Act in Orlando

April 5, 2021
The Most Reverend John Noonan
Bishop of Orlando, Florida
Dear Bishop Noonan,
Public policy officials are boldly attempting to pass national legislation that criminalizes the practice of our Catholic faith. The Equality Act will accomplish this evil deed, if enacted, which appears increasingly likely.
Evidently, Bishops around the country seem reluctant to speak out about a so-called “political matter.” Thus, eerie silence emanates from Chanceries nationwide. The USCCB has issued a helpful statement against this evil, but this is minimally effective as the vast majority of Catholics are either totally unaware of it or will not view it.
Thus, Episcopal leadership now has no choice. This deadly legislative initiative cries out for a heroic response in defense of the Faith.
We, the deeply concerned signers of this letter, and with utmost reverence, call up you, Bishop Noonan, to use your obvious personal media skills to create a video to be immediately played at all Sunday Masses and to be posted on the Orlando Diocesan website and all its social media sites alerting Catholics to the mortal dangers of this Equality Act. Concurrent with your video, petitions would be distributed and sent to our representatives, particularly in the U.S. Senate where the fate of this legislation now rests. The petition would instruct these Senators to vigorously lobby and vote against this evil legislation. Thus, you would educate your flock and guard against external legislative attempts to destroy our Catholic Faith.
Thank you, Bishop Noonan
Respectfully yours in Christ,
Concerned Orlando Diocesan Parishioners
