The Borough leadership confirmed today that they are replacing the current beach patrol management. We forced them to listen to our demands and this win belongs to the entire community that refused to back down. Keep a close watch on the transition process to ensure the new leadership actually respects …

Dear Avalon Beach Patrol,

There is no simpler way to describe your job than you are the babysitter of the beach. You have to make sure that we the people don’t die or wreck the the place. But right now you are like that baby sitter that makes the kids go to bed early and doesn't let them have dessert. Right now all of the kids think that you are no fun, and they want Mom and Dad at the Borough to fire you and hire a new sitter. The people of Avalon have had continuous problems with the way that you run the beach, make up rules along the way, disrespectfully interact with beachgoers and treat the people of the town. Many of them are asking that you be fired, and leadership be changed. So please, for everyone’s sake, make some changes. Hear the complaints and act on them. You have the power to make Avalon beaches a great place to work as a lifeguard and a great place to stay as a guest. So stop treating beachgoers and lifeguards as subjects in a monarchy, and start to treat them like friends. Hold public meetings and listen to the feedback of the people. Help us to make Avalon beaches a great place for everyone.

Sincerely,

The People of Avalon

This guy has got to go. I was a lifeguard and worked under ABP Cpt. Murray Wolfe. He runs the beaches of Avalon like a dictator with no regard to the actual safety of the beach patrons of Avalon. When it comes to surfing and surfers he is ruthless. Set that beach free

My husbands parents have had a house in Avalon for 15 years. We choose now to take our children to the beaches in Stone Harbor where you can throw a ball while standing by the water. Where you only hear a whistle if someone is in complete danger (which is rare). Where the ice cream man wheels his cart on the beach rather than make our kids walk a mile in hot sand to only have their ice cream melt before they back to the towel. Please change your rules so we can come back to our Avalon beach!!

#FreeAvalon...ABP needs leadership. The lifeguards, residents and visitors to our beautiful beaches in Avalon deserve better. It is not healthy for a beach patrol to be permitted to curse at beachgoers, curse and denigrate 16-17 year old lifeguards, especially females, change the rules constantly, make up new rules and not answer to anyone. Enough is enough!

totally agree the lifeguards are absolutely afraid of capt wolf. Many have suggested that if they even hint that they disagree with anything said by wolf that they will be fired. this is no way to run a beach. btw I would like a sensible and rational answer as to why paddleboards are not allowed in the surfing beaches. not one lifeguard has given me a sensible answer. safety doesn't fly. paddleboards are actually more safe than surfboards no

The leadership at Abp is awful run by a bully and his sons. Instead of focusing on competitions and winning they should focus on hiring and maintaining good lifeguards.

Safety is important, but its the worst when people are over cautious, it really can take away from the fun. Seriously we aren't allowed to play football on the beach. That's like telling your teenage child that they can't drive your car because they could crash it. They will just find another way to drive. There are plenty of beaches that do allow you to play whatever you want on the beach.

Three years late here, but problems still exist. People are treated like they never have been in the ocean before. The 90 year old "captain" really needs to retire or take some lessons from beach patrols in LBI.
