Decoration for Graduation
Skyview High School is currently the only high school in School District 2 that does not allow the graduating class to decorate their caps for the graduation ceremony.
If decorated, they will escort the student out, and not let them walk across the stage to receive their hard earned diploma.
This executive decision by the school has upset many students. Decorating caps is a way for the students to express themselves. For many students, this is the last time they will see each other. It's fun to decorate them and see the personalities of their peers expressed on our last days together.
It's also something really important to the All Nations students. Beading is a huge part of their culture, and they would love to be able to bead their caps. As long as it's not anything inappropriate, why couldn't we? We paid for our caps and gowns and spent the last four years working towards this moment.
This is OUR graduation. Not the teachers who opposed the decorating. They had their own graduation in high school. It's our turn, and we should be able to make it our own.
Let's petition to decorate our caps! Class of 2017!
Share and sign! Let's get this going and make a difference.
