Low self-esteem is a growing epidemic and in many cases, victims are suffering from the culture of today's society that they are immersed in. The main culprit of this strong influence is the media which we so frequently come into contact with. Social media, especially, has become a pivotal tool in the way people view ideas of beauty and acceptance and often presents insecurities. The media is famous for using editing effects such as airbrushing, filters, and enhancing features. As a result, the idea of beauty has narrowed substantially, making thousands of people feel unaccepted and imperfect. The media has set standards that are impractical and impossible to meet. Something needs to change.

If you are someone that feels this is unfair or has ever felt insecure because of the media, please sign my petition. Far too many people have suffered mentally and physically from low self-esteem and something needs to be done. The media has gone too far in deciding what should be socially accepted and what shouldn’t. Take a stand and sign!

The media giants are still gaslighting us with their filtered lies while our mental health pays the price. I am currently working on a compilation of the stories you shared here to confront these agencies directly about the damage they cause.

The media giants thought they could keep selling us these fake, filtered nightmares without a fight. This momentum proves that we are finally done with their toxic lies.

Too many girls are growing up thinking they aren't enough. My niece is constantly comparing herself to instagram models who don't even look like that in real life. Keep pushing for this change!

This is so true. I deleted my social media for a while because of how bad it was making me feel about my own body. Thanks for doing this.

About time someone spoke up about this. The media really is toxic for young people today.

As a parent of a 17 year old daughter who has always been on the tall/thin side I totally agree with your statement. She has been picked on and called anorexic simply because of her genetic make up. It's time to stop the nonsense...our kids need to know that nobody is as perfect as what appears on the cover of magazines.

It's always an irritant to see magazines that honestly show the before and after airbrushing etc. I've watched my own daughter retouch her photos before posting them. I asked her once about it and her response made me ill - "mom, everyone does it" Sad Sad
