Hello fellow Med 28. I am currently facing dismissal from the MD program and I would appreciate your support to stay. I tested positive for marijuana metabolites in my pre-matriculation drug screening. After my initial hearing with the Medical Student Progress Board, they decided to proceed with a dismissal hearing coming up on October 8th. I want to become a doctor with the rest of you, and I hope your support can convince the committee to allow me to continue this program.

I accidentally consumed a marijuana gummy in June 2024 because I was told it was a sleep aid by my partner at the time. I had a meeting with the Medical Student Progress Board in August during which I told them my story, and then 25 days later they informed me that they will proceed with dismissal because they did not believe me. In my pre-matriculation drug screening, my levels were 33 ng/mL, which is below the widely accepted cutoff for a positive result of 50 ng/mL. I am not sure what the cutoff is for the test ordered by OHSU. They also did not ask me to repeat the screening to confirm the positive result. While they do have a "zero tolerance policy," I feel that it is unfair that I am not given the chance to continue the program (as long as I pass random and/or regular drug tests).

Please consider signing this petition to help me make my case against dismissal. Thank you.

Edit (9/27/2024): Thank you all for your support, you have no idea how much this means to me. To those that are telling me to get an attorney for the dismissal hearing, I called several firms around Portland and they all declined my case. I was able to find a lawyer in Salem who was willing to take my case, but he stopped returning my calls. Unfortunately, OHSU required me to inform them whether I was bringing a lawyer by September 26, and I couldn't secure legal counsel

I also understand why you are recommending that pursuing legal action against my partner, but I believe she had no nefarious intent and I do not want to damage her future career/educational prospects with a felony charge. Additionally, I would have to prove that she intended to do this in order to inflict physical and/or sexual violence against me. Staying in this program is extremely important to me, but I can't do that to her in good conscience.
