The neighbors of Door Creek Park are committed to protecting the 100+ year old oak trees in the park, which could be negatively impacted by the construction, usage, and maintenance of the new ski path, as proposed by the City of Madison - Parks Department. Other proposed paths within the park do not put the old oak trees at risk and provide ample distance for recreation and allow start-to-finish usage from any entrance within the park. Therefore, the residents listed below support removal of the trail section behind Bluff Point Drive. At a minimum, we support a reroute that eliminates undue risk to the life of these trees and the addition of hedges/screening to protect the aesthetics and privacy of both the skiers and park neighbors.

Updates

November 3, 2008

I spent the entire morning staring at those old oaks again because honestly the thought of them being hurt by some heavy machinery just keeps me up at night. I have been emailing the parks department constantly and my inbox is just total silence right now which is so frustrating but we are definitely not going to just let this slide quietly.

Those trees have been there way longer than the city planning office. Leave them alone and find a different spot for the path.

The privacy and the trees are why we moved here. reroute it now before they start digging.
