Arise now ye Tarnished, to help Improve Elden Ring's PVP
Elden Ring is not only the latest installment of the Soulsborne franchise but the biggest in terms of both game scale as well as audience reach. It could be considered the most forgiving of all the titles, simply because of the number of options in playstyle available to the player. In order to continue the health and longevity of the game, there are 4 PVP related additions and/or changes that we are proposing.
We would like the ability to have 6 or more players (a combination of summons and invaders) in any area the way that we could in Dark Souls 3. This would allow for more creative locations for fight clubs outside of the Coliseums, and for players to come up with their own rules and configurations. This also helps create community events that bring more attention and activity to the game along with the ability to showcase the many great locations for such multiplayer events.
The Colosseums have been a great addition to Elden Ring, bringing more options for PVP but it is also limited by things you can find in many other Colosseum style arena modes. A major improvement that would help bring attention and longevity to their use would be to add a Spectator mode. It would help keep players engaged while waiting in a queue to fight. It also makes them a more viable location for larger fight clubs and community events.
Outside of colosseums and intentional summoning of an invader, there lacks a core part of the Soulsborne series that is now specifically tied to co-op multiplayer; that being single player invasions. We suggest implementing a system where the player can use a Rune Arc to enable single player invasions. This would allow the players who wish to have that 1 v 1 PVP invasion experience to do so, while also avoiding the possibility of unintentionally ganking early level solo players. To elaborate on this point further, to even access the true power of Rune Arcs the player must defeat a Shardbearer and then activate their Great Rune at a Divine Tower and equip it. Only then will using the Rune Arc give the host a massive buff, at which point they will be more than ready for PVP.
Another facet of the single player invasion experience that is missing from Elden Ring is Covenants. The Covenant system adds more depth to the world’s lore and the factions within it, of which Elden Ring has many. It is a system that immerses the player within the environment as well as the Covenant they are aligned with. This would help to give items such as the Blue Cipher Ring more use, and it makes invasions more meaningful to players while making it a more engaging way of farming certain item drops.
All in all, Elden Ring is a massive and enjoyable player experience with an ever-growing community. With the announcement of Elden Ring’s first major DLC re-energizing the player base, now is the perfect time to address the changes we wish to see in the future. We hope that if you like and agree with these suggested additions above you will sign this petition to help us gain the attention of Fromsoftware developers, with the goal of implementing these changes for the betterment of Elden Ring’s PVP.
