Not only does the TEAS V exam have nothing to do with a student’s competency in the Nursing Program, the grading scale is slanted to improve the odds that students will fail. February 2016 I took the TEAS exam and passed all sections except the reading due to grading discrepancies. I should have technically received a 71% for the reading section but because I answered questions that were worth less than 1 point or were not worth any points I was given an average score of 66% for this section. My college requires students to pass the reading section with a 69%.
Eliminate the TEAS
I think that the test should not be taken to get into nursing. As a nurse myself and a student who has taken the TEAS test. It is like taking an SAT or entrance test into a college . We had to do that going into to college to determine whether we needed to take remedial courses or to go into regular college courses. So why are we having to do it again? The teas has nothing to do with healthcare . Isn’t take the SAT and placement test enough. There are older nurses that are very good at their jobs and want to go back to school and take required classes and then they make the TEAS so hard that they can’t pass. There should be a stipulation to that. For nurses that have been working in that field for more than 10years and gone back to take their required classes should be exempt from taking TEAS test.
what's the point of passing the TEAS to get accepted into a nursing program and then take it again just to gauge the level of competency of a nursing student? What a waste!
I agree this test has nothing to do with nursing school,just cause you an pass this teas doesnt mean you are gonna pass nursing school.all about money.
Teas should be waived
I agree with all the other comments. This test does not determine how well a person will perform as a nurse. It is pointless, a waste of money, and completely irrelevant to becoming a good nurse. Would you want someone who is good at taking a test and not that compassionate becoming a nurse or a dedicated and caring person who will make an amazing nurse, but isn't that good at differentiating between an opinion and a fact?

This test has curbed my entire career. I’ve been a MA for over 25 years with over 60 credits toward nursing. It’s just sickening
