Equal Access to Higher Education at Southampton University
To Professor Don Nutbeam, Vice Chancellor of the University of Southampton, At the University of Southampton people seeking asylum are currently charged international fees (£10,400 - £23,000 per year). This can prevent them from accessing higher education as they are not permitted to work, cannot apply for grants and most bursaries and are not allowed to take out student loans. We believe that everyone has a right to education, and that those seeking asylum should not be excluded from higher education but should be able to join the University of Southampton as equals. We, the undersigned, call on you to: * Allow asylum seekers to pay home fees at our university [Please when you sign, put your full name in the name box and in the comments box put your department of study and your student ID, otherwise it will be discounted as a 'signature']
